Transitioning From the Micron 7450 SSD to 7500 SSD

Micron recently announced that the new 7500 NVMe SSD is in production. This drive will serve as the replacement to the 7450 series in U.3 and U.2 15mm form factors.

Q: What is new in the Micron 7500 SSD compared to the Micron 7450 SSD?

A: Very little, and that's a good thing! The Micron 7500 leverages the same proven architecture and firmware stack as the Micron 7450. The major change was to refresh the product onto the latest 232 layer replacement gate (RG) NAND. As the PCIe generation 4 data center NVMe SSD from Micron, customers that have previously qualified the Micron 7450 can expect fast and easy qualifications due to the architectural commonality between the two drives.

Q: Does the Micron 7500 have all form factors to replace the multiple Micron 7450 form factor options?

A: No, the Micron 7500 will only be offered in the U.3/U.2 15mm form factor.   The Micron 7450 will continue to be manufactured in the M.2 and E1.S form factors.
